Second Suites for the City of Barrie and the Greater Barrie Area (GBA)
The Strategy recommends second suites as an option to increase affordable rental housing including broadening the zones permitted for second suites (including accessory structures to these dwellings) into the R1, R2, R3 & R4 zones. Associated development standards are as follows;
- Each dwelling containing a second suite would be required to provide a minimum of 1 parking space per unit.
- Only one second suite permitted per property.
- Second suites would be restricted to a minimum of 40% of the principle dwelling and a maximum of 50m2 if located in an accessory building.
